Rohingya Support

Rohingya Support poster

Following immeasurable persecution in their home country of Burma and more than 8 weeks stranded at sea, 8,000 or so Rohingya made a perilous journey towards Indonesia and Malaysia in May this year. Many lost their lives at sea, reports of rape, violence over remaining scraps of food and human trafficking were widely reported. around 2,000 of those 8,000 Rohingya managed to shore in Indonesia. Our fundraising was in support for those Rohingya Refugees

Just under a month ago, we launched our first ever fund raising campaign for the Rohingya community and asked for your support to raise £20,000. This project was to provide

  • immediate aid and
  • set up health and hygiene facilities,
  • educational centre,
  • medical facilities and psychological trauma counselling as well as
  • logistics such as camp translators, administrative staff and transportation.

We also made a call out to supporters to help us provide :

  • one months supply of drinking water for 2,000 refugees as well as
  • provide security for the camp to ensure further human trafficking and smuggling does not occur.
  • the first well to ensure the water issue is addressed long term.

We are thrilled to now announce we have managed to raise all the funds for each of the above targets and have raised a total of £29,152 from 22nd June 2015 to 13th July 2015. We are indebted to our supporters and their warm generosity.

Now following the intial fundraising we hope you can extend your genorisity and ensure we are able to support the Rohingya refugees of Indonesia long term.
