Annual gathering of the UK’s most explosive lyricists passionate about human rights!
+ Boxfresh Open Mic Session for new artists
Despite the bitingly cold January evening, restless beings as the name would suggest, were at it again to raise the volume on human rights through conscious hip-hop with our Human Writes III gig!
Fears of snow induced trouble were quelled as London streets were clear of the white stuff, and event attendees began to gather at the wonderfully diverse venue that is Bethnal Green’s Richmix. The temperature in doors was perfect and the rest is fondly remembered history.

The night’s roster was full of home-grown talent that as expected, did not disappoint. There were standout performances throughout the show. Spoken word artist Anthony Anaxagarou managed to keep a boisterous crowd hushed with words that were cause for reflection, and the ever soulful Aruba Red left our Director Mabrur almost literally speechless. The eclectic Flux who fused the flute with violin, drum and so much more again reduced the crowd to appreciative quiet, except of course when applause time came. The emotive pieces were beautifully done, and the set provided the evening with a delightful contrast of sounds. Long time supporters of our work Native Sun graced the stage yet again for Restless Beings and delivered once more with their unmistakable stage presence. Another long time supporter with us was DJ Snuff, who kept us entertained with a set that filled the four walls with his refined taste in Hip Hop. Before all was said and done, there was the small matter of our headline act. The illustrious Ty took to the stage and finished off what had been a much enjoyed night. Combining raps of old and new, with loveable humour and dance included, Ty was superb.
As well as being a stage to home established performers, we also held an open mic contest that saw Gabble MC walk away with a prize that included studio time and a video shoot. Close in second was Osama MC who held the crowd so well with his lyrical style and a dance move or two. But Gabble MC ran away with the top spot with witty wordplay and to put it simply, the ability to make the crowd go nuts. As is the way of the genre.
With an audience of young and not so, old supporters and first timers too, Human Writes III represented so much of what we are about. The coming together of all people, in support of a cause unknown to so many through a strong engagement with the arts. Last of all but never the least; we’d like to THANK YOU ALL for your support through all, continuing to help us help forgotten and marginalised communities across the world!
We hope to see you soon, stay restless!
